Ngā punga tuna a Māui – The Eel-Catching Baskets of Māui
(collaborators- Mark Bagley & David Hakaraia)
Mutu ana tā Māui-Atamai rāua ko Māui-Wareware hanga punga tuna e toru nei, ka hoatu he poa, arā, he māunu mō roto i aua punga. Wai ka hua, wai ka tohu he aha te momo māunu i mahi ai hei whakawai i te tuna, engari ko te āhua nei i tika, i pai.
Ko ngā ingoa o ēnei punga tuna e toru nei ko Te Herenga Waka rātou ko He Herenga Tāngata ko He Herenga Kaupapa. Ko ngā māunu kei roto i Te Herenga Waka ko Kaitiakitanga, ko Manaakitanga, ko Whanaungatanga, ko Akoranga, me te Whai Mātauranga. Ko tā He Herenga Tāngata māunu ko Te whakakitenga. He māunu kē atu tā He Herenga Kaupapa, ko tāna kē ko Ngā whāinga matua.
When Māui-Atamai and Māui-Wareware completed the construction of their three eel-catching baskets, an enticement was provided, that is, bait was placed inside those eel baskets. Who knows what type of bait was used to lure the eels, however the consensus is that it worked.
The names of the three Eel catching baskets you see before you are Te Herenga Waka, He Herenga Tāngata and He Herenga Kaupapa. The bait inside the Te Herenga Waka basket are our Values. He Herenga Tāngata contains our vision. He Herenga Kaupapa contains Our strategic priorities.
